Warm-weather Friend

Another warm weather friend for you today...but I wouldn't give it a hug.  This tall Cactus is a fun one to color.  I did the background using glossy cardstock and the Copic airbrush system.  It is a fun way to make paper that coincides with the stamp you are coloring.  Of course I had to top it off with a little Copper Penny Nuvo Crystal drops.
I love using tip-to-pallet technique to bring a second color into the coloring that normally might not blend well together.  For this one I added a little R89 with the YG03 to add color to the tips of one of the cactus clusters.  Just don't forget to clean off theR89 from the YG03 before putting it away or you will have a surprise next use.

This card is another fun image we will color in the July class at The Paper Collage!

Southwest Mountains

This is a similar view when you visit parts of Arizona.  The red rocks jutting out of the ground like some mars landscape.  The heat radiating up and drying you to the core.   I wish i could enjoy the beauty from the inside of a air conditioned bubble...oh wait I can....DONT get out of your car.  It is a sight to see though.  This stamp is now available through C.C.Designs.
I love adding purples or blues over oranges and reds.  It really give a pretty accent to colors.  Don't think you can't add crazy colors in almost the "normal" to give it that special touch.

By request this stamp will be colored up by the attendees in my July class in Arizona (go figure)

Smell of the Ocean

Living most of my life on the coast, this brings back so many fond memories.  I lived in Oregon, on the coast in Eureka, CA., and in Dutch Harbor, AK...now I live in the hot desert of Arizona (what was I thinking?).  I am definitely a coastal girl at heart and look forward  to the sound of the seagulls and the crashing of the waves with the sand between my toes and that smell of salty kelp that is drying in the wind.  For now I can dream (and color up images) of the sea.
This stamp from C.C. Designs "Beach Front" is now available.  Those taking my class in July will get a little taste of the DoveArt Studios line of stamps.

Bridge Over Water

I love this stamp (from C.C. Designs).  It is a very calming scenery.  I can almost hear the water trickling under the bridge in the stamp Bridge Over Water.  It is a quick and easy image to color and makes a great feminine or masculine card depending on the colors chosen for the paper.
Trees with details are so easy to color.  Keep in mind you want to keep a highlight to separate the "clusters" of the different positions of the leaf areas to give the illusion of depth.  Literally this is just a bunch of fat smooshy dots places over the detail of the stamp, semi-blending from dark to light.  This could be a beautiful fall image by just changing the color of the foliage in the trees too.

This is a card in the upcoming card class for July at The Paper Collage.

X-Press It Adhesive Sheet fun

So I left you off last post with my favorite Sketchbook and a project I had started.  Here is what I did with the image when I was done.
I have done this micro bead cover-all once before on a Christmas card.  Although it was a heavy card when it was done, I loved the results.  I thought I would try it again for this project.  Micro beads are tiny little hole-less beads that can come in a variety of colors.  I have had some in my stash for a while and thought I would use some up.  Using clear ones make any colored image glimmer.

I cut the image down to the size I wanted for the frame I was going to use.  Using an X-Press It Adhesive sheet I covered the front of the image.  The adhesive sheet is double-sided so one side sticks to the project and you can apply glitter or micro beads or any other fun thing to the exposed sticky side.  This Adhesive sheet work well for laminating too.  Because of the strong hold I knew it would hold all those tiny beads.

In short all you do is peel one side and stick to the desired surface....then peel the other side and apply the glitter or micro beads.

Here is the project finished.  So simple and gives the image that little somethin' for a wow.  Whether you are doing a tiny project or a big project Copic has them in all sorts of sizes.

Close up

You can find all the sizes including a roll of the product  HERE at Imagination International Inc.

I went back into the deep depth of my blog (scary actually), and found some other projects that would have been perfect for this project!  Have you ever tried adding sand to a project?  A lot of glues won't work well...but I bet the Adhesive sheet would have been fabulous!

Here are two more micro bead projects for inspiration too

What are some projects you have done with Adhesive Sheets?

I want some more fun ideas to store up in my brain for next time.

Until next time!

Copic Must Haves - Sketchbook

I mean for reals...this is a must have!  I love my Copic Sketchbooks.  Why?  What makes them awesome you ask?  Let me tell you what I love them!
They come in different sizes, the small one is perfect for the art on-the-go and the larger ones are great for nice sized, framable artwork.  The paper is smooth and the perfect thickness to hold layers of ink (although I still put a scrap paper between sheets for possible bleed-through).  The paper is a nice weight to go through a printer if desired.
Have you worked on paper that is not a tight, compressed weave?  When you ink it, the ink will travel in the weave of the paper fibers leaving a not-so-crisp impression...this is not the case with the Sketchbooks.  The ink stays where you place it.  For inking and coloring with markers you want that compressed paper.  For watercolor and other mediums you want the softer papers that allow the medium to travel.
I thought I would do some playing around for a project I was working on.  I drew this Fuchsia cluster using my pencil and then once satisfied I inked it with the Cool Gray Multiliner.  Normally I would just color it in the Sketchbook, but I needed to preserve the original image for future use, so I scanned and printed it and then colored the printed version up.  Now I have the original safely in the Sketchbook for future use.
A lot of research was done to find the highest-quality Japanese illustration paper.  It has 50 sheets in each size Sketchbook.  It comes with a very nice thick cover so you can use it as backing to draw on and also protect your projects.  This uncoated paper is 70# with a very smooth surface.  Because if its slight warm tone it allows for very bright and vivid coloring

You can find the Sketchbook in a plethora of sizes at Imagination International Inc., or ask for it at your local art store.

What will you create using this yummy paper?  Come back and see what I did with my drawing.

Chillaxing!

With the heat in Phoenix (yes, I am complaining) I would love for a little shade and an outdoor cup to sit in...make that a big cup.   Speaking of cups this one was fun to color and add a little dimension too.  Just by simple placing the colors down with highlight an shadows in each area gives the flat object a more round appearance.  Give it a try!  Pick up the stamp from Stampendous called Whisper Bath and color her up!

....this image reminds me of home.  So I couldn't finish this post without sharing some of my family.  My mom and dad live in Northern California.  They have build a wonderful oasis amongst the redwood trees of which they call home.  After building the house they built a deck that is built around the trees and an outdoor bathhouse right by moms art studios.  Dad always has a project going which is one of the reasons he remains so spry.  So here are a few peeks into a place I love.

Cousins in the mini pool...tub (love you CUZ)

A walk amongst the giants

Studios behind bath house

The green house

One of Dads many gifts is to see beauty in junk and make it into something.  Creating a calming peaceful surrounding that you never want to leave.  My dad is a dreamer that can turn a dream into reality.  Of course he isn't alone in this artistic expression...my mom takes it all to a totally new level. They make an amazing team now for a total of 47 years!  Much admiration!

Say CHEESE!

Say Cheesy!  Pink Your Life stamp collection from Stampendous! is super sweet.  I think this would even work for that teen in your life that is a selfie-taker.  This is another stamp we get to color up in class next week.  I would love for it to be sunny enough to go out...but not too hot like it is here in Phoenix where all you want to do is hide...come on Fall.  So I will continue to hide and color cute images instead.
Unfortunately the glimmer and shimmer didn't photograph well but those wings just twinkle with Nuvo Gloss Shimmer brush

Best Friends

Nothing is better then an outing with a friend.  Time to hit the road and discover new horizons and adventures.  If you can't escape the everyday, then we can pretend with this adorable stamp from Stampendous!  Whisper Friends Van is so cute.  With wide open spaces it would be fun to even throw in your own style of doodling too.
I created this easel card so that I could extend the road simply by continuing with the lines of the stamp onto the lower portion.  This will be fun to teach in the class I have coming up next week.  If you are not local to Phoenix just grab your stamp and take the idea and make one yourself  You will love it!

Just Stick It!

Did you know that the Imagination International Inc. X-Press It line has a range of different products to include not just the Copic X-Press It Blending Card, my favorite Transfer paper, Mask It, but also adhesives as well?  There are both tapes and glues.  I already loved the easy-to-use double sided tape so when they came out with the Foam Squares I was super excited because I knew it would be fantastic. It comes in the perfect package to take along on all my events.  So easy to use...just peel and stick.
Here I created a card for tomorrows DoveArt Studios release.  I stamped the image and colored it up twice.  Then I cut out the flag on one of the images.  I wanted dimension on only parts of the image.  On the left side of the image I just glued the piece straight down...but the right side needed to be raised so I used the X-Press It Foam Mounting Squares.

Here it is assembled.  So simple to do but adds such fun dimension.  These pre-cut, high-tack Foam Mounting Squares come in two sizes, 1/4" or 1/2", with easy to remove backing.

Stop by tomorrow to see the card completed.  You are going to love this release!! Plus there are chances to win a new release stamp from CCDesigns too!

Tommy Art Chalk Color

Yum, Yum, Yum, Tommy Art Chalk.  Imagination International has the new Tommy Art Chalk (from Italy).  It is as sexy as it sounds.  Delicious, vibrant colors!  They said it wouldn't buckle paper, so I really put it to the test.  The first thing I did was some fun stuff on an old dictionary.  I thought for sure there was no way it wouldn't warp the paper.  Just playing around, I put some small puddles of the Tommy paint onto some acetate and then stamped into it with a large rubber stamp.  Once I picked up the paint, I stamped it onto the very thin dictionary page.  I was super surprised it didn't buckle the thin paper nor did it seep through.  SOLD!  I finished it off with some words to live by and quotes that inspire me.  This was really a "just for fun" project.

Next I wanted to see how sponge painting would work.  I took a finger dauber and picked up two colors of the paint and proceeded to daub the color onto the cardstock.  I created a quick flower petal look.  It wasn't long before it dried and then I finished them off with a couple Copic markers and some black Tonic Nuvo Drops in the centers.  BAM!  DONE!

If you ever just want to break out of the norm this would be the paint to use.   If you are an altered-art fanatic, this is the paint for you!!  This chalk-based mineral paint offers great coverage, opacity, and lightfastness.  They adhere to most surfaces without all the prep work.  Tommy is available in 35 colors.  There is also a range of metallics as well as the specialty products such as wax, varnish and more.

I hope you enjoyed seeing something a bit different from me.  I am always willing to play with new mediums and expand my horizons!!

Birthday Stack

Well I thought I would make everyone at the Advanced Copic Retreat bonkers by giving them some "No-Line" coloring.  It worked!  But we all enjoyed coloring up this stamp from Art Impressions.   I saw my friend Barb (Little miss muffet) do this stamp (and then send it to me) using similar color combos in the brights and love it so I thought I would use my friend Zoe's (Make It Crafty) No-line technique and show everyone how it works.  Everyones card turned out wonderful!  What a super adorable stamp.  They also have ducks and elephants and more, oh my!  Art Impressions was so sweet to sponsor our event and allow me to use this stamp.

Here are the colors I used if you too want to play!  For the one I did at the event we used Angelic Pink Dew Drop which was given to all the attendees from the great sponsor Imagine Crafts.  This is the BEST BEST BEST stamp pads for use with Copic's.  Tried and true!!  Plus they have refills.  Pink and gray are great for this technique and then of course everyone needs a black one.  You can find them HERE

Another one of my other favorite products from them would be the finger daubers. I use them for distressing.  A must-have tool for all people who enjoy using ink on the edge of paper.

Just For You!

This sweet set from Stampendous call "Bouquet for You" is one of the stamps we used at Advanced Copic Retreat.  Stampendous is an amazing generous sponsor with quality products and went above and beyond and gave a set to every attendee.  Thank you Stampendous!
Kuretake Zig also blew us out of the water with their sponsorship of the amazing (my favorite) water brush, the BRUSH2O.  We used it to create such a soft look in the background and whenever we needed subtle transparent look on something throughout the weekend.  Everyone got to play with my Nuvo drops (another huge favorite) to finish off the card with fun embellishments too.  For this set we learned how to create a painting-with-Copics background, fun texturing, transparent glass, water drops to make it over-the-top, and reflections.  WOW, so many techniques in one piece and was it ever fun to color!!

You Don't Want to Miss This....

Sooooo, I have a little....giggle....blush....squeal.....secret....

Are you ready for some BIG news?

I am now the West Coast Regional Copic Instructor for Imagination International Inc.  No...NO...FOR REALS!!!  I will be joining the AMAZING team with Debbie Olson, Cindy Lawrence and Michelle Houghton.   What does this mean?  This means I will be traveling, mainly on the West Coast to select areas and teaching the Copic Beginning and Intermediate Certification courses, as well as their fun workshops.  OH, YOU DONT WANT TO MISS THIS!  Do you know how thrilled I am to add this to what I am currently doing.  Yes, I will still do my Boot Camps in Phoenix and I hope to see you at one of them!  But now this gives you more opportunity to join me in a Copic Certification class or workshop.  We will get to hang out even more now!!  Keep an eye out for next years schedule and be sure and sign up right away.  If you can't make one of mine, PLEASE go to one of the other amazing instructors classes.  You get so much guidance and quality teaching from these ladies.  Nothing compares to taking a class in person, plus the opportunity to hang out with like minded people!

So in celebration of my acceptance for this place of honor, the Imagination International Inc/Regional Instructors and Copic Blog Team are having a fun hop...and what's a hop without a frog?

I have created this piece using one of the Copic Doodle Packs Doodle Pack Green.  Have you seen them before?  What is a Doodle pack you ask?  A Doodle Pack is a color-coordinated, theme assorted pack with two Ciao markers, a Multiliner and a glitter pen.   This is the perfect gift for a friend who loves to doodle!  Its the perfect size for travel, combine it with a small notepad for the road and you are good to go.  I just happened to take it with me to the RV last weekend and even though I had my whole box of Copic goodness (all 358 markers) with me, I refrained from use of any other product other then a pencil.  I wanted to see what I could accomplish with using what they have picked for the Doodle pack.  With no light box, transfer paper or Tracing Memories App I had to go old school and DRAW this little guy.  I do love tools that make things quicker but also enjoyed the process of bringing this guy to life just by using what I saw in the inspiration photo.  Mind you the photo was of a yellow and black frog.
Here he is just waiting for the Doodle Pack...This Doodle Pack has an Olive Multiliner...so I just traced over the lines with the Multiliner and then proceeded to color it in with the two Ciao markers (G14 and YG41)...that's it...2 markers and a multiliner!

Please check out what the rest of what the Copic team created in celebration of little ol' me!

Before you go we have a little goodbye...

We are also saying goodbye to Lori Craig from the Regional Instructor team.  She might be leaving the team but it is for new and great things.  Lori is now handling all of the NEW Tommy Chalk Paint line for Imagination International.  She is super excited about this new endeavor and I am sure you will be seeing some amazing stuff using this product soon!  For those that got blessed to be in one of her classes I know you know that she will rock the Tommy Chalk side of things!

Thank you all for your years of support and love.  Thank you for commenting, following and sharing.  Your comments lift me up and encourage me to soar to new heights!  I look forward to seeing you in the future at one of my personal events or a Imagination International Copic class!

You are Out of this World!

I am going to try to get the rest of the cards we created in Advanced Copic Retreat posted for everyone to see.  Here is the one we did using Adventure Land from Craftin' Desert Divas.  We created the background using glossy paper and the Copic Airbrush setup.  We made the fun interactive portion of the card using the Slide On Over Circle from Lawn Fawn and finished it off using the edge dies from Little Darling Rubber Stamps.

Everyones cards turned out amazing and it was so fun to complete them using these products from our wonderful sponsors.

For these cards we focused on coloring metal, creating a space background and coloring transparent elements.  I also taught the attendees how to create this fun moon and planet.  You too can learn some wonderful techniques in the upcoming Copic Boot Camp!  All the info can be found HERE!

Get' er Done

Look what Little Miss Muffet did!!!! Do you recognize her? There is now a Polka Dot Pal named "Jennifer".  Isn't she just the cutest thing you have ever seen.   HA HA HA.  But for reals, she is an adorable stamp.  She is now available in rubber for you to color up through Little Miss Muffet Stamps.  The fun thing with all the Polka Dot Pals is you can create your own faces on them, and that is what I did with this one.  Coloring images such as these really helps to hone coloring skills and expands your artistic abilities.

Photo of Nic and I after 2016 Copic Boot Camp, 4 days of 10 plus hours of teaching per day...but we sure were cute in those outfits!!

Here is the first image I colored to mimic Boot Camp

Sunset Sway

This sweet image is called "Sunset Sway".  I tried to keep it pastel but in the end that didn't happen.  I find that keeping things light is hard as the Copic's are so vivid and yummy and the color choices are endless.  I couldn't help but do the Tulips in orange.  I thought I would play around a bit more with cast shadows to give depth.  Most of the shadows are correct I think but if they are not don't judge me.  It was fun to do anyways.

Simple Tulips and Anemones swayin' in the breeze!!  There is actually two different choices for this digital image, one is with a butterfly.  Power Poppy has the mose amazing digital detailed floral.
